Education and Achievements

Ellen began learning piano at the age of seven in Hong Kong before immigrating to New Zealand, where she continued her musical journey through the Specialist Music Programme at Burnside High School. During this time, she participated in masterclasses with renowned musicians, further deepening her love for performance and music education.

She went on to complete a Bachelor of Music at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, and later earned a PGCE in Secondary Music Teaching from the University of Sunderland, UK.

Ellen has a particular passion for music theory, which she sees as the foundation of all musical understanding and playing. She enjoys helping students make meaningful connections between theory and practice, empowering them to become confident, expressive, and independent musicians.

Ellen believes music education should nurture confidence, curiosity, and joy. She strives to make each lesson a positive and enriching experience, helping her students build not only musical skill but a lifelong love for music.
